    Re-watching the Watchmen

So there, I just watched the Watchmen for the third time yesterday at the Platinum cinema where there were only 8 of us on Lazyboy seats. I admit, I wasn’t really satisfied the first time I watched it because I needed to get over what were different from the comic books and the significance of the things that were replaced/shortened and cut. Because I just recently read it and watched the motion comics, I guess certain scenes and chapters were really embedded in my mind that I couldn’t help but cringe at little details (like Rorschach saying that visiting his best friend left a bad taste in his mouth). On the second time that I watched it (with Rocketjumper and Purplyana), i actually really enjoyed it more. I guess I already accepted the creative decisions made. The second viewing was for me to watch it as a movie and to appreciate the dialogue and visuals as it is shown. The third time, I just wanted to appreciate it again with David Hayter’s recommendation and because I wanted to look at the details. I was actually looking at the corners of the big screen instead of where I would usually focus. Man, there were a lot of things I missed!

Here are some of them, some I’ve seen on the second viewing, most on the third.

    • Covers of Batman#1 behind Nite-Owl I during the opening credits.
    • When the Comedian throws his mug at his killer, it hits the room’s number. And from 3001 it becomes 300. Ahooo! Ahoo!
    • so that’s why that boy looks familiar. It’s Zack’s son playing another awesome role, first as young Leonidas beating a wolf and now as young Walter Kovacs biting off the cheek of some poor bully.
    • As Nite-Owl II finally hacks through the Pyramid floppy disk, there’s a folder inside that says “Boys”, obviously refering to rorschach’s guess that Adrian is gay
    • On the computers showing the targets all over the world, finally saw S.Q.U.I.D. (S)ub (Q)uantum (U)nified (I)ntrinsic Field (D)evice’as the name of the machine that Doc and Ozy made. then when you look at the machine, it sorta had tentacles of blue energy. So there goes the squid ending.
    • There’s that 300 again in the briefcase combination of Dr. Malcolm Long.
    • finally recognized the 1980’s Mac advertisement that Rocketjumper told me about in reference to a Mac=Veidt article.
    • Veidt’s suit didn’t have nipples. They were just black aerolae.
    • Finally, I think the Rorschach blood blot on the snow looked like another pretty flower.
